Andrew earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from California State University, Fullerton. He has over 20 years of private teaching experience and has nearly 35 years of performance experience. He has performed in many settings including rock bands, funk groups, large and small jazz ensembles and as a solo guitarist.
Andrew’s musical education began with piano lessons at age five. At age eleven he picked up the trombone and his first guitar lessons were at age twelve. Somewhere along the way he picked up the bass and drums as well. Over the years Andrew has studied with many of Southern California’s top musicians, including Adam Speth, Dave Murdy, Luther Hughes and Ron Eschete.
The most influential of his instructors was renowned 7-string guitarist, Ron Eschete. Andrew had the privilege of studying privately with Ron for two-and-a-half years while attending CSU, Fullerton. Ron is truly a harmonic mastermind whose knowledge of the guitar is unparalleled. He is known to some as the “Yoda of Jazz Guitar.”
While Andrew has had many great teachers over the years, he feels that his greatest education has come from his wealth of performance experience. He has performed in many settings including rock bands, funk groups, large and small jazz ensembles and as a solo guitarist. All told Andrew has several hundred performances under his belt and currently plays in the instrumental trio, “Mo’ Strings”.
